The Southern Bullmastiff Society was founded in 1935 with the objective to encourage and promote the breeding and training of the Bullmastiff and to urge the adoption of the breed standard by all breeders and judges.

To this end the club holds shows and supports classes for the breed at other shows.

The club also aims to assist members and the breed in every way compatible with their interests

The Society holds three shows each year. A single Breed Championship Show in August and Two Single Breed Open Shows in April and September/October. The shows are held in the South of England on either a Saturday or Sunday.

The current venues are Bisley Camp, Brookwood, Surrey, (April Open Show), Dobermann Club Showground, Digswell, Welwyn Garden City, Herts, (August Championship Show), and Marconi Sports Club, Chelmsford, Essex, (Open Show October). These shows are open to non-members.

The Society also tries to organise other social events and seminars.

It publishes two newsletters each year and produces handbooks and biennial yearbooks At the shows and at Crufts the society runs a small trade stand selling Bullmastiff memorabilia.

There is a welfare service run by members of the society who endeavor to assist Bullmastiff and their owners in times of difficulty. They are available for advice and help in re-homing Bullmastiff's where necessary.

The Society is an active member of the Bullmastiff Breed Council, which brings about liaison with the other Bullmastiff Clubs on matters affecting the progress and welfare of the breed.
